〈Innocence〉 is the sequel to the 1995 animation 〈Ghost in the Shell〉, which thrilled sci-fi fans worldwide, and takes place in 2032, three years after the story of 〈Ghost in the Shell〉, focusing on Bato from Public Security Section 9, who is filling the void left by the missing Major Motoko Kusanagi. With its unique and realistic visuals combining 2D animation and 3D graphics, it became the first animated film to compete in the Cannes Film Festival in 2004, exploring the boundaries between humans and machines, and delving deeper into philosophical questions of consciousness and existence, thereby expanding the scope of animation.
