Burning with Passion! Behind the Action of ‘Tangled’ Revealed

Disney+’s First Original Historical Drama Series 〈Tangled〉 tells the story of those who dream differently to live like humans in a world where all the money and resources of Joseon gather around Gyeonggang.

Disney+’s First Original Historical Drama Series 〈Tangled〉 has captured the attention of viewers worldwide with its impressive action performances, revealing the behind-the-scenes of Rowoon’s action. Park Young-sik, the action director who meticulously crafted each action scene in 〈Tangled〉, added a special narrative to Jang Si-yul (Rowoon)’s actions. “In the beginning, since ‘Si-yul’ is a character who hides his identity, I thought about showing him overpowering his opponents with minimal movements, and as the story progresses, I aimed to dramatically show him awakening completely and throwing everything away in the end,” he explained, emphasizing that the action design was not just about flashy moves but about conveying the character's emotions and the evolving action scenes. To capture these emotions, Park Young-sik integrated a tailored action style that perfectly suited Rowoon. “I thought it would be great to utilize the outstanding physicality of actor Rowoon to create refreshing and elongated actions in one go,” he said, adding that “since the character ‘Si-yul’ was survival-oriented, I tried to ensure that the actions expressed emotions through the body rather than just mimicking the movements,” revealing the behind-the-scenes of how actor Rowoon transformed into ‘Jang Si-yul’ to deliver intense action.

Rowoon’s efforts, throwing himself into the character with infinite affection, also draw attention. Park Young-sik named Rowoon as the actor who contributed the most opinions on action during filming, stating, “I think he showed more will than opinions. He told me that he would burn his whole body, asking for the action to be dramatic and desperate rather than just looking cool. He really didn’t hold back. I’ve never seen an actor like this,” applauding his determination and passion.

Meanwhile, following the death of ‘Malbok’ (Ahn Seung-kyun) revealed in the ending of episode 7 last week, the confrontation between ‘Si-yul’ and ‘Wang-hae’ (Kim Dong-won) is anticipated to continue this week, raising curiosity to its peak. Rowoon selected this scene as the most memorable action scene, further heightening expectations. Rowoon shared, “I immersed myself without holding back, and the reason I went this far is my love for the character,” revealing his special affection for ‘Si-yul’. Park Young-sik also mentioned this scene, saying, “It was a narrower alley than we expected. The actors are quite large, and since they were fighting with short daggers or sickles, it was challenging to move closely,” indicating that it was a scene meticulously crafted through numerous takes. Disney+’s First Original Historical Drama Series 〈Tangled〉 is an action drama about those who dreamed differently to turn the chaotic world upside down and live like humans, surrounding Gyeonggang where all the money and resources of Joseon gather, with the final episodes 8 and 9 set to be released this Friday (17th).
