Actor Kim Min-seok perfectly depicts the growth of Generation X youth, adding vitality to the drama ‘Typhoon Company’.
Kim Min-seok has caught attention in the tvN weekend drama ‘Typhoon Company’ (directed by Lee Na-jung and Kim Dong-hwi, written by Jang Hyun) which started airing on the 11th, portraying the carefree Generation X from 1997 to the growing pains of youth facing the IMF crisis.
‘Typhoon Company’ is a drama depicting the struggles of ‘Kang Tae-poong’, a rookie businessman who becomes the president of a trading company with no employees, no money, and nothing to sell during the 1997 IMF crisis. The drama has been on an upward trend, achieving its highest rating of 9% nationwide (according to Nielsen Korea) with the airing of its 4th episode on the 19th, ranking first in the same time slot among cable and general programming channels.
In the drama, Kim Min-seok plays the role of Wang Nam-mo, the best friend of the protagonist Tae-poong (played by Lee Junho), adding energy to each episode. Kim Min-seok, who expressed the carefree ‘Generation X’ as part of the ‘Apgujeong Street Boys’ dominating the era, showcased deep loyalty by guarding the condolence money box at Tae-poong's father's funeral in episode 2, and in episode 3, he moved viewers by cheerfully presenting a bouquet to his mother who unexpectedly faced retirement.
In this way, Kim Min-seok portrays the intense growing pains of a carefree youth facing the whirlpool of the IMF crisis with excellent pacing, enhancing immersion. In the 4th episode, as his dream of becoming a singer was shattered with the news of being eliminated from a music competition, curiosity grows about how the youth Nam-mo, portrayed by Kim Min-seok, will evolve in this turbulent era.
Following his successful performances in the first half of the year with the TVING original ‘Shark: The Storm’ and the movie ‘Noise’, Kim Min-seok is aiming for another hit as he meets viewers weekly through ‘Typhoon Company’.
‘Typhoon Company’, featuring Kim Min-seok, can be watched every Saturday and Sunday at 9:10 PM on tvN.
