Chef Kim Mi-ryeong of 'Imokase' garnered viewers' sympathy by revealing her heartbreaking family story.
On the 28th, Chef Kim Mi-ryeong appeared on KBS 1TV 'Morning Yard - Tuesday Guest' and reminisced about her childhood dream of becoming a ballerina while sharing her difficult family history.
From 'Rich Girl' to 'Survival Chef'
Chef Kim Mi-ryeong stated, "My father, who was an educator, was greatly shocked by his business failure," and revealed, "He collapsed and became paralyzed due to that shock." This made the cast solemn. She confessed that after seeing the 'red sticker' on her once wealthy family, she had no choice but to give up her dream of becoming a ballerina.
Ultimately, she gave up her dream and walked the path of cooking for survival. She mentioned, "I didn't attend a great culinary school; I cooked to make a living," and inherited her mother's noodle shop, referring to herself as a 'survival chef.'
Success as 'Imokase No. 1' in 'Black and White Chef'
Overcoming difficulties, Kim Mi-ryeong succeeded as a chef and gained public recognition as 'Imokase No. 1' in the Netflix show 'Black and White Chef.' She has received praise for her unique dishes that combine Korean and Italian cooking techniques, and after the broadcast, her restaurant has enjoyed such great popularity that reservations are backed up for several months.
Viewers have reacted to Chef Kim Mi-ryeong's candid confession, saying, "It's amazing how she overcame difficulties," and "I support her." She has been actively participating in broadcasts, recently appearing on MBC 'Village Chief Lee Jang-woo 2' to develop new recipes with actor Lee Jang-woo.
