A unique voice that infused Latin passion into country music has fallen silent forever. Raul Malo, the soul and lead singer of the band 'The Mavericks', has passed away.

On the 10th (local time), The Mavericks announced through their official social media, "It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our friend and brother Raul Malo." He was 60 years old.

◆ "He Was a Force of Nature"

According to the band, Raul Malo peacefully closed his eyes on the evening of Monday, the 9th, surrounded by family.

He was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in June 2024 and had been battling it, and in September 2025, he was diagnosed with a rare complication called Leptomeningeal Disease (LMD), where cancer cells spread to the brain and spinal cord. He canceled all scheduled tours to focus on treatment but ultimately could not overcome the illness.

Bandmates paid tribute in a statement saying, "Everyone who was in Raul's orbit knew he was an irresistible 'force of nature' with infectious energy."

◆ A Musical Revolutionary from Miami

Born in 1965 as the son of Cuban immigrants in Miami, Raul Malo emerged in the music scene by forming The Mavericks in 1989.

He struck the 1990s with a 'neo-traditional' sound that masterfully blended traditional country music with his roots in Latin rhythms, rock, rockabilly, and swing. The hit song 'All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down', released in 1995, is considered a defining track for the band, and they have lifted numerous trophies, including Grammy Awards.

◆ "A Person Who Embodied Life and Love"

His wife Betty, who was with him for 34 years, expressed her sorrow, saying, "No one embodied life and love, joy and passion, family and friends, music and adventure like my beloved Raul." He is survived by his wife Betty and three sons Dino, Victor, and Max.

The Mavericks emphasized, "His overwhelming creative contributions and cross-generational talent showcased the power of multicultural music beyond America, and his legacy will live on forever."
