Netflix has revealed three things to watch ahead of the release of 〈The Boy at the Back Line〉.

Turbulent psychology and intense suspense Netflix original series 〈The Boy at the Back Line〉 depicts what happens when Heo Mun-oh, a professor but a failed writer, meets Lee Kang, a young man with genius-level talent. The first thing to watch in this drama is its powerful suspense that will chill viewers to the bone. As director Kim Gyu-tae put it, “If you follow the characters’ shifting psychology and their inner selves, you’ll find yourself fully immersed in the work,” the show won’t let viewers’ attention slip, thanks to twist after twist each episode and a cliffhanger ending that overturns every prediction. It is set to capture human emotions in depth—from the desire to be recognized to feelings of inferiority and complexes—leaving viewers with deep immersion and lingering aftereffects.

The overwhelming acting synergy of Choi Min-sik and Choi Hyun-wook The second is the intense meeting between acclaimed actor Choi Min-sik and rising star Choi Hyun-wook. Choi Min-sik explained the character, saying, “I wanted to portray how, when Lee Kang encounters someone who has a desire to write but lives without being able to fulfill it, their instinct starts to squirm again, like a single pebble being tossed into a calm lake.” Choi Hyun-wook, who plays Lee Kang, also hinted that he would properly show the character’s sly side, saying, “I wanted Lee Kang to come across as someone who can’t be easily read. I spent a lot of time thinking through the parts that aren’t explained in words, so viewers can stay curious. Instead of revealing the intention, I tried to leave room for interpretation.” That promises to heighten expectations for the two actors’ explosive acting chemistry.

Detailed production that moves between reality and fiction The final thing to watch is the detailed production that pulls viewers deep into the story. Director Kim Gyu-tae, who interestingly brings to life Lee Kang’s novel within the drama, “A Story Within a Story,” said, “Because a story overlaps with another story inside it, I thought the boundary needed to feel loose so viewers could get even more absorbed. I paid attention in many areas, including how the story progresses, the sense of pace, and the actors’ performances,” outlining key points of direction. Showcasing solid production—shot compositions that capture the characters’ shifting emotions, spatial design that reflects each character’s personality, and a variety of OST sounds that add both tension and lyricism—〈The Boy at the Back Line〉 will be released worldwide on June 26 via Netflix.
