The master of SF, Steven Spielberg, returns to his roots and field of expertise with the theme of 'aliens (UFOs)'. This marks his return after about 20 years since 'War of the Worlds' in 2005.
On the 17th (local time), Universal Pictures released the first official teaser trailer and title for Spielberg's 37th feature film 'Disclosure Day'. The news of the master’s new work, which established the grammar of modern SF cinema with 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' in 1977 and 'E.T.' in 1982, has stirred the global film industry.
◆ "We Are Not Alone"... The Overwhelming Scale of the Prologue
The released trailer begins with a live broadcast scene of a Kansas City weathercaster played by Emily Blunt. During the calm broadcast, a strange alien signal is captured, and the ensuing urgent situation sends chills to the viewers. Universal Pictures hinted that this work will pose philosophical questions beyond mere invasions through the official logline, "If you find out that we are not alone, will that scare you?" The phrase, "The truth belongs to 7 billion humanity. We are getting closer to Disclosure Day," reveals the film's heavy thematic consciousness.
◆ 'Jurassic Park' Combo & 'Oscar-Worthy' Actor Ensemble
This work is based on Spielberg's original idea, with veteran writer David Koepp, who collaborated on 'Jurassic Park' and 'War of the Worlds', penning the script, adding to the trust. The casting lineup is also glamorous. Led by Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor from 'Challengers' plays a passionate character chasing the truth, while Colin Firth plays a scientist handling advanced technology, adding weight to the film. Additionally, acting talents like Eve Hewson, Coleman Domingo, and Wyatt Russell have joined the cast. Notably, Josh O'Connor is said to have been offered the role by Spielberg without an audition, drawing attention.
◆ 30th Collaboration with John Williams... Targeting Summer 2026
The most exciting news for film fans is the inclusion of music director John Williams. This marks a historic 30th collaboration between the two masters. The synergy created by Spielberg's visual aesthetics and Williams' grand score will be another highlight of the film.
'Disclosure Day' was secretly filmed under the code name 'Non-View' from February to May in locations such as New Jersey and Atlanta. Spielberg's ambitious work, which will be released three years after his autobiographical film 'The Fabelmans' in 2023, is set to reach audiences in theaters and IMAX screens worldwide on June 12, 2026.
