Netflix original variety show 〈Culinary Class Wars Season 2〉has risen to the top of the global non-English show category in its first week of release, once again proving the global status of K-variety.
According to the statistics released on the 24th by Netflix's official statistics site 'Tudum', 〈Culinary Class Wars 2〉recorded 5.5 million views last week, achieving the highest view count among non-English content. The view count is a key indicator representing the actual number of viewers, calculated by dividing the total viewing time by the runtime.
The regional performance is also overwhelming. It ranked first in major Asian countries including South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan, and showed its strength by entering the top 10 in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, including Qatar and Indonesia.
〈Culinary Class Wars〉is a survival cooking competition program where the top domestic star chef 'Baek Su-jeo' clashes with the talented but unknown 'Heuk Su-jeo'. Season 1, released last year, set a record as the first Netflix Korean variety show to be ranked No. 1 in the global non-English show category for three consecutive weeks, so attention is focused on whether Season 2 can continue that success formula.
The success of Korean content did not stop at variety shows. In this tally, the SBS drama starring Ahn Eun-jin, 〈Dynamite Kiss!〉, ranked 4th in the non-English show category, and the series featuring Jeon Do-yeon and Kim Go-eun, 〈The Price of Confession〉, placed 7th.
In the film category, Korea's strength also shone. The Netflix original film 〈The Great Flood〉, starring Kim Da-mi and Park Hae-soo, recorded 27.9 million views, securing the No. 1 spot in the non-English film category.
