The artist WOODZ (Jo Seung-yeon), who is establishing a unique position as a solo musician, and the next-generation director Park Se-young have confirmed the release of the mystery short film 〈Slide Strum Mute〉 on February 26 (Thursday).
〈Slide Strum Mute〉 is inspired by WOODZ's autobiographical essay, telling the story of 'Woo-jin' (played by WOODZ), who, on a night after failing an audition, is entrusted with a broken guitar by a mysterious man and races through cursed time driven by desire.
WOODZ's bold transformation... "Expanding from musician to actor"
Recently proving his explosive musical capabilities with self-composed songs like 'Drowning', WOODZ is taking on his first leading role in a film with this project. He plays the character 'Woo-jin', who reveals deep inner desires in the face of an irresistible opportunity, showcasing a fresh and solid performance different from what he has shown on stage.
Additionally, Justin Min from 〈After Yang〉 and promising newcomer Jeong Hwa-rin join the cast, enhancing the film's density, while electronic music producer Moon Yi-rang's creative production 'OS earth' is in charge of planning, promising a harmonious blend of visual beauty and sound.
'Monster Rookie' Director Park Se-young delivers cinematic pleasure
The direction is handled by Park Se-young, who won three awards at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival with his first feature film 〈Fifth Thoracic Vertebra〉 and has received the spotlight at major international film festivals such as Berlin and Sitges.
Director Park defines this work as "a letter dedicated to the sensations offered by genre films" and expresses his ambition to fill the screen with moments overflowing with racing sensations and emotions, providing audiences with a new cinematic experience.
A 59-minute mystery only available in theaters
The three title clips released alongside the launch poster capture Woo-jin's mysterious situation with the words 'Slide (preparation of sound)', 'Strum (realization)', and 'Mute (stop)', derived from guitar techniques. This project, presented in a 59-minute short film format and exclusively released in theaters, holds great significance as it expands WOODZ's unique worldview into cinematic grammar beyond a simple music video.
Blurring the boundaries between music and film, genre and short, 〈Slide Strum Mute〉 aims to awaken the audience's senses and will greet viewers in theaters nationwide starting February 26.
