〈Mobile Suit Gundam〉 live-action version is teaming up with Netflix.
On January 28 (local time), various entertainment media in the United States reported that Netflix has acquired the distribution rights for the live-action 〈Mobile Suit Gundam〉. 〈Mobile Suit Gundam〉 is the first live-action film of the famous giant robot series 'Gundam', co-produced by Legendary Pictures and Bandai Namco, which owns the original IP. Jim Mickle, who directed Season 1 of 〈Sweet Tooth: The Boy with Antlers〉, is in charge of the script and direction, with Noah Centineo and Sydney Sweeney starring.
Netflix, which is in charge of distributing the project, has previously shown its partnership with Bandai Namco Filmworks by announcing the new 〈Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem of Vengeance〉 set to be released in 2024. Since Netflix has only released original films on its platform, it is highly likely that 〈Mobile Suit Gundam〉 will also be released exclusively on Netflix. However, considering the global fanbase of the 'Gundam' series, there is also a possibility of limited theatrical releases being considered.
With the lead actors and distributor confirmed, production is ramping up for 〈Mobile Suit Gundam〉, which is expected to adapt the original 1979 animated series that marked the beginning of the franchise.
