During the last Chuseok holiday, the film 〈Boss〉, which claimed the top spot at the box office with its fresh setting and overwhelming comic performance, has started streaming on Disney+. Instead of a power struggle to take over the organization, this work depicts the story of members desperately 'giving up' their boss positions, promising a laughter explosion on OTT following its theatrical success.
〈Boss〉 is a comic action film that captures the unprecedented war of concessions among characters who refuse the boss position for their own dreams ahead of the election of the next leader of the organization.
Is the noodle soup more important than the top of the organization?… A 'war of concessions' rather than a 'power struggle' over the boss position
The core fun of this movie lies in the 'shared dreams' of characters who are desperate not to become the boss.
First, Jo Woo-jin plays 'Soon-tae', a character who wields a ladle instead of a knife. He is obsessed with turning the family-run Chinese restaurant 'Mimiru' into a nationwide favorite rather than seeking power within the organization. He sees being mentioned as a candidate for boss as an obstacle to running the restaurant and desperately avoids the position.
In addition, Jung Kyung-ho's character 'Kang-pyo' is an elite within the organization, but he struggles to distance himself from the boss candidacy to choose a completely different path in life that no one expects. Park Ji-hwan's character 'Pan-ho' also shakes things up with his unique presence that defies everyone's expectations, pushing the boss position away. Finally, Lee Kyu-hyung joins as 'Tae-kyu', an undercover cop infiltrating 'Mimiru' as a delivery person, hilariously complicating the case instead of narrowing the investigation net, reaching the peak of character comedy.
A lively blend of action and comedy… Perfect as a 'family movie'
〈Boss〉 is not just a film that is simply funny. It features dazzling and lively action sequences that provide genre satisfaction while cleverly poking fun at the struggles of modern people caught between 'dreams' and 'reality', evoking empathy.
Having received praise during its theatrical release for "the actors are determined to be funny" and "a refreshing comedy that relieves stress after a long time", it is expected to be a killing time movie that the whole family can enjoy after its release on Disney+.
In a fiercely competitive society, the desperate struggle of organization members, where ironically 'giving up' becomes a survival strategy, can now be enjoyed on Disney+ with the film 〈Boss〉.
