
The stars of the film 〈5 Centimeters Per Second〉, which was a sensational hit in Japan after being adapted from the animated film by director Makoto Shinkai, will meet Korean audiences in person. This visit includes director Yoshiyuki Okuyama and rising Japanese star Noah Shiroyama, who played the young 'Akari'.
〈5 Centimeters Per Second〉 is a story about the love and longing experienced by Takaki and Akari, who share precious childhood memories but move at different speeds through time. Upon its release in Japan, it surpassed 700,000 viewers in just 10 days, achieving a total of 1.6 million viewers and box office revenue of 2.2 billion yen, setting a successful precedent for live-action adaptations.
Director Yoshiyuki Okuyama, who is also a renowned photographer and music video director for Kenshi Yonezu, is a versatile creator. After visiting Korea for the Busan International Film Festival last year, director Okuyama is returning once again, receiving praise for successfully transplanting the lyrical essence of the original work onto the screen with his unique delicate visual style.
Accompanying him is actress Noah Shiroyama, who is the youngest grand prize winner in the history of the prestigious 'Toho Cinderella Audition' and is currently enjoying unparalleled popularity in Japan as the 'Nation's Little Sister'. Selected from a competitive ratio of 500 to 1, she has secured the Best New Actress Award at the Japan Academy Awards and is nominated for the youngest Best Actress award, garnering intense interest from critics.
Director Yoshiyuki Okuyama and Noah Shiroyama will stay in Korea from February 27 (Friday) to 28 (Saturday) during the opening weekend, planning to engage with domestic fans through various events such as stage greetings and audience talks (GV). The specific schedule for the visit will be announced sequentially through the official SNS of the importing company Media Castle and the websites of each theater.
The film 〈5 Centimeters Per Second〉, which combines the emotional impact of facing Makoto Shinkai's masterpiece in live-action with the honest stories of the director and actors, will be released nationwide on February 25.
