Lunar New Year Holiday Box Office, Korean Film 'Big 3' Clash... 'The King and the Man Who Lives' Surpasses 1 Million

Three Korean films targeting the Lunar New Year holiday are ready to meet audiences with high expectations.

First, released on February 4, 〈The King and the Man Who Lives〉 surpassed 1 million viewers in its opening weekend on February 9, showcasing its strength. 〈The King and the Man Who Lives〉 tells the story of the deposed king Danjong and the village chief Eom Heung-do, who serves him in exile. Directed by Jang Hang-jun, it stars Yoo Hae-jin and Park Ji-hoon, depicting the story of two people transcending class.

Following this, 〈Humint〉 and 〈Number One〉 are set to release on February 11, stirring curiosity among audiences with their completely different genre characteristics. 〈Humint〉 is set against the backdrop of Vladivostok and depicts the story of a National Intelligence Service agent dispatched to prevent human trafficking targeting North Korean residents, a North Korean security agent with different motives, the consul general in Vladivostok, and an informant connected to all of them. Directed by Ryu Seung-wan, it features Jo In-sung, Park Jung-min, Shin Se-kyung, and Park Hae-joon, delivering a thrilling espionage battle.

〈Number One〉 tells the story of Ha-min (Choi Woo-shik), who begins to see a number decreasing each time he eats his mother's food, and learns that when the number reaches 0, his mother Eun-sil (Jang Hae-jin) will die, prompting him to strive to protect her. This film offers a different kind of emotional experience compared to the other two. Choi Woo-shik and Jang Hae-jin, who previously collaborated in 〈Parasite〉, are set to resonate with audiences of all ages.

Among the three Korean films featuring the genres of historical drama, espionage, and family drama, 〈The King and the Man Who Lives〉 is currently showing, while 〈Humint〉 and 〈Number One〉 will be released on February 11.
