The 'Minions' universe, which holds the record for the highest box office in animation history, returns with an even more expanded world. The production company Illumination Entertainment announced that the third installment of the 〈Minions〉 series, titled 〈Minions & Monsters〉, is set to release on August 6, 2026, and unveiled the first poster and trailer.
This new work is expected to once again prove the strength of the 〈Despicable Me〉 franchise, which has surpassed a worldwide cumulative revenue of 5.6 billion dollars. In particular, the previous releases, 〈Minions〉 (2015) and 〈Minions 2〉 (2022), achieved a cumulative revenue of 2 billion dollars, creating a global 'Minion Syndrome', so the attention of movie fans is focused on this sequel returning after four years. In South Korea, all previous installments have surpassed 2 million viewers, showcasing strong ticket power, making it a strong contender for box office success this summer.
The released first trailer humorously depicts the Minions, transformed into Hollywood movie stars, struggling to produce a monster movie. The unique chaos that turns the filming set into a mess, as well as the scene where they summon creatures needed for the film and unexpectedly encounter a green being, evokes the Minions' signature absurd humor. The accompanying poster also captures a Minion looking cynically at a giant monster dozens of times its size, piquing curiosity.
The Minions, who embark on an adventure to find real monsters, are expected to awaken sealed beings one after another, from sea monsters to giant pink rabbits and mummies, plunging the world into chaos. Directed again by Pierre Coffin, who also lends his voice, 〈Minions & Monsters〉 promises to maintain the series' unique identity while hinting at evolved humor and upgraded scale, set to greet audiences on August 6.
