The film 〈Ryuichi Sakamoto: Diary〉 captures the final moments of the world-renowned musician, the late Ryuichi Sakamoto, and has unveiled the 'DIARY & WRITE' poster ahead of its release in April. This work is a final cinema essay that encapsulates the intimate records, unreleased music, and reflections on life that Ryuichi Sakamoto left behind during the last 3 years and 6 months before his passing.
The released 'DIARY' poster metaphorically captures a real black diary placed against a white background, representing the deep contemplation of an artist. The text on the poster reflects his daily feelings, thoughts, and determination towards music, projecting the master’s sense of life (生) and death (死). The subsequent 'WRITE' poster features images of Ryuichi Sakamoto from behind and everyday moments, conveying an experience that resonates with the individual. Notably, the phrase 'Leaving Behind Music' foreshadows his desire to remain connected to music until the very end.
This work was completed after Ryuichi Sakamoto, a pioneer of electronic music and a master of film music, began documenting his daily life upon realizing in December 2020 that his time was limited. Directed by Kensho Omori, it features Ryuichi Sakamoto and Min Tanaka, capturing the master’s final moments within a 96-minute runtime.
〈Ryuichi Sakamoto: Diary〉 is set to meet audiences in Korean theaters this April.
