The film 〈Silent Friend〉, which is highly anticipated as the first European film of global actor Tony Leung, has confirmed its release in Korea this April.
〈Silent Friend〉 tells the story of characters from three different eras—1908, 1972, and 2020—who are quietly connected through a ginkgo tree located in a botanical garden in Germany. Directed by the European master Ildikó Enyedi, the film elegantly and stylishly explores the mysterious connection between nature and humanity.
The four character posters released highlight figures representing each era, starting with the ginkgo tree that has taken root since 1832. They include 'Grete' (Luna Wedler), who embodies both loneliness and strength as the first female student at the university in 1908; 'Hannes' (Enzo Broome), a young man deeply connected to plants in 1972; and 'Tony' (Tony Leung), a neuroscientist studying the heart of a baby in solitude during the pandemic in 2020, which piques curiosity about the main film.
In particular, Tony Leung has received praise for demonstrating overwhelming presence in this work, proving his greatness once again. He plays the role of 'Tony', a neuroscientist invited from Hong Kong to Germany, and is expected to immerse the audience with his deep gaze and atmosphere rather than through dialogue.
〈Silent Friend〉 has been officially invited to the 82nd Venice International Film Festival and won the Best New Actor award, achieving a 100% freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes, receiving high praise from international media as a work that showcases the realm of cinematic art. It was also invited to the Icon section of the 30th Busan International Film Festival in Korea, drawing enthusiastic responses from audiences.
〈Silent Friend〉 will be available in theaters across Korea this April.
