Zhang Ziyi, Terrance Lau, and Liu Haoran Conclude the 19th Asian Film Awards!

The 19th Asian Film Awards has come to a close. This year, ahead of the awards ceremony on March 15, a masterclass featuring director Hwang Dong-hyuk of 〈Squid Game〉, renowned Chinese director Jia Zhangke, and actress Zhang Ziyi was held consecutively, receiving great acclaim.

During the awards ceremony, special awards were presented to three actors. Hong Kong actor Terrance Lau received the Rising Star Award, earning a warm round of applause from the audience. Terrance candidly spoke about the struggles behind the charm of acting. “People may think that actors always look glamorous, but that’s because we are made up. In reality, we often feel fragile and filled with self-doubt. I have questioned many times whether I am a good actor. I haven’t found the answer to that question, but I still believe that film is beautiful, and I want to continue reflecting on that question and become someone who gives back to film.”

The Next Generation Award was presented to Chinese actor Liu Haoran, who reflected on his past 12 years as an actor. “I feel honored to be recognized for my activities over the years. My 12 years as an actor coincide with the rapid growth of Asian cinema. Through the 〈Dangan Gatan〉 series, I had the opportunity to collaborate with many outstanding filmmakers across Asia. I hope to continue working hard and leave a unique mark in the new era of Asian cinema.”

The ceremony culminated in the presentation of the Asian Film Excellence Award to Zhang Ziyi. Having also held a masterclass at this year’s awards, Zhang Ziyi stated, “I have grown through film for over 20 years, and film has shaped every stage of my life. I thank all the directors, actors, and crew I have worked with, and the audience who continues to inspire me. Asian culture has a deep and lasting legacy of stories waiting to be told. I hope filmmakers across Asia will continue to collaborate to express the power and spirit of our culture through film.”
