The film 〈My Name Is〉 is a work depicting the journey of Young-ok, a high school student in 1998, and Jeong-soon, the mother in 1949 who tries to recover painful memories from Jeju. As the grand prize winner of the ‘Jeju 4·3 Peace Foundation Scenario Contest,’ the film chose crowdfunding to avoid being swayed by the logic of capital. It went on to record the best-ever crowdfunding achievement in the history of Korean feature films, with participation from as many as 9,778 citizens.
Through the broadcast, Director Jeong Ji-young will share the meaning of this work, completed through citizens’ solidarity, and the touching stories behind the 5-minute ending credits of around 10,000 supporters, which drew standing ovations from audiences. The director also plans to reveal plenty of additional behind-the-scenes details, including the tears that lead actress Yeom Hye-ran shed as she recorded the late Kim Min-gi’s requiem song ‘Friend.’
Born from the meeting of a master director’s meticulous direction and the steadfast support of citizens, the film 〈My Name Is〉 will officially open in theaters nationwide on April 15.
