Three of Korea’s Top Chefs, Off With the Name Tags—They Get Hired in Disguise as Kitchen Juniors

tvN’s ambitious new cooking entertainment show “Undercover Chef” reveals itself next month. Three star chefs representing Korea’s culinary scene set aside their flashy titles and return to the basics, taking viewers through a brutal survival story from within the kitchen.

Star Chefs’ Strange New Challenge—“Undercover Chef” Launches

tvN officially launches next month’s sensational cooking entertainment program “Undercover Chef”. After winning overwhelming support from audiences through Netflix’s “Black and White Cooks: The War of Culinary Classes” and JTBC’s “Please Take Care of My Refrigerator”, star chefs “Sam Kim”, “Jeong Jisun”, and “Kwon Sungjun” have been confirmed for an explosive appearance. They head to the countries that shaped the roots of their cooking philosophies, embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime challenge: fully hiding their impressive careers and disguising themselves as the youngest kitchen staff at local restaurants.

Italy and China: Carrying Out a “Secret Mission” for Five Days

The core of this project is meticulous disguise and survival. “Sam Kim” and “Kwon Sungjun” travel to Italy, while “Jeong Jisun” heads to China. The three chefs thoroughly disguise themselves through documentary-style filming of everyday people dreaming of becoming cooks, and get hired as junior kitchen staff at local restaurants. Their allotted time is just five days. During this period, they must complete the high-difficulty “Secret Mission” assigned by the production team.

A “Return to Their Roots” by Korea’s Best Chefs

The chaotic, head-over-heels adaptation stories that top chefs in Korea will face in unfamiliar foreign kitchens are expected to deliver a fresh jolt to viewers. With authority and fame left behind, their decision to start again from the very bottom is anticipated to offer more than just another cooking entertainment show—an emotional, human experience and an intense sense of being on-site.
