The true faces of chefs hidden behind the glamour of fine dining will be revealed.
Recently, SBS announced that the documentary series featuring the intense daily lives of six owner chefs leading the culinary world, 〈The Korean Chef〉, will premiere on the 12th. The documentary vividly captures the extreme struggle where even a 1-second or 1mm error is not allowed behind the glamorous stage of fine dining.
The most attention-grabbing figure is undoubtedly 'Culinary Monster' Chef Lee Ha-sung. He caused a stir by appearing as a 'black spoon' class in the Netflix show 〈Culinary Class Wars 2〉, and through this documentary, he reveals his true self at his establishment 'Oyat'. It is expected to provide a glimpse into the struggles and philosophy of an owner chef hidden behind the bold persona shown on the broadcast.
In addition to Lee Ha-sung, the lineup is impressive. Chef Kang Min-goo, who leads the only Michelin 3-star restaurant in the country, 'Mingles', will showcase his role as a commander overseeing 35 staff members, along with co-representatives Park Jung-eun and Park Jung-hyun of the world’s best restaurant in North America, 'Atomix', Michelin 2-star Chef Shin Chang-ho of 'Joo-ok', Chef Lim Gi-hak of the classic French icon 'L'Espoir', and Chef Lee Yong-woo of 'Harris', all of whom are top culinary experts.
The first episode, titled 'The Weight of Stars', airing on the 12th, will highlight the different attitudes of chefs towards the Michelin star. The stories of those who must protect the star, those who quietly walk their own path without a star, and those who challenge the star will intersect, showcasing the current state of Korean fine dining. Additionally, actor Shin Ha-kyun's profound narration will add depth to the reality of chefs who must make survival choices as artists and managers at every moment.
〈The Korean Chef〉 will premiere on February 12th at 9 PM on SBS and will also be available on Netflix.
