Actor Koo Kyo-hwan is presenting numerous works across film and television in 2026. After achieving box office success in the first half of the year with a romance film, he continues to stay active with a currently airing drama and the upcoming release of a film invited to the Cannes Film Festival.
First, the film 〈If It Were Us〉, released in the first half of the year, surpassed 2.6 million cumulative viewers, achieving box office success. This is the highest record among domestic romance films released since 2019. Koo Kyo-hwan played university student Lee Eun-ho, who experiences a realistic breakup and reconciliation, portraying complex emotional shifts.
On the small screen, he is meeting viewers through the JTBC weekend drama 〈We Are All Trying Here〉 (hereafter abbreviated in Korean as 'Mojamussa'). Written by Park Hae-young and directed by Cha Young-hoon, the series features Koo Kyo-hwan as Hwang Dong-man, a man who has been preparing to debut as a film director for 20 years. He vividly captures a character troubled by anxiety between dream and reality, anchoring the series.
On May 21, the new film 〈Colony〉 will be released. 〈Colony〉 is a thriller centered on Dr. Seo Young-chul, a biologist who triggered an outbreak; Koo Kyo-hwan plays the villain at the center of the story. Notably, 〈Colony〉 was officially invited to the 'Midnight Screening' section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, drawing international attention even before its release.
His agency, Namoo Actors, said Koo Kyo-hwan makes an effort to present new characters in every project without being limited to one genre. The industry is watching Koo Kyo-hwan's trajectory as he spans romance and human drama to the thriller genre.
