Actor Jisung (49) will make a bold transformation this time into a former organized crime boss who unravels corruption inside an apartment complex.
■ Jisung’s comedic comeback as a former mob boss targeting 10 billion won in capital
On the 19th, JTBC officially announced that Jisung’s new Sat-Sun drama Apartment has been confirmed as part of the July lineup for its first broadcast. Apartment is a cheerful comedy in which former mobsters who try to seize the so-called “blind money” sleeping inside the apartment complex unexpectedly get entangled with residents and end up digging into the massive hidden corruption within the complex.
In the drama, Jisung plays Park Hae-gang, the boss of the former Oasis gang, who runs for president of the apartment residents’ representatives council (hereinafter referred to as the residents’ representatives council) with the ambitious goal of securing 10 billion won in capital “legally(?)” through his plans. With his trademark razor-sharp charisma combined with sly comedic acting, he is set to write a fresh chapter in another “life character” performance.
■ Ha Yoon-kyung, Park Byung-eun, and Moon So-ri join… the “chemistry” of entangled apartment residents
A top-tier supporting cast featuring both emerging stars and veteran actors is also drawing attention. Actor Ha Yoon-kyung takes on the role of part-time worker Kang Ha-ri, who lives fiercely at a large law firm, ‘W Partners,’ while dreaming of becoming a lawyer, forming a distinctive collaboration with Jisung. Actor Park Byung-eun will portray Lee Chung-won, the CEO of the construction company that built the apartment complex and a mysterious penthouse resident, adjusting the tension of the story. Actor Moon So-ri will play Jang Sook-jin, a talkative, nosy real-life resident who seems to know everything going on inside the apartment complex, and will be responsible for the drama’s laughter through her signature, lifestyle-close performance.
■ ‘Apartment,’ a miniature of modern society… a satisfying satire aimed straight at the living-room theater
By setting the drama Apartment against the backdrop of the apartment—where the majority of people in South Korea live, and where diverse social human types gather, including conflicts over interests, noise between floors, and gaps in social status—it is expected to deliver timely resonance and appeal. The core viewing point is the narrative that flips the realistic themes of “interest battles” and corruption surrounding the so-called residents’ representatives council through the comedic and satisfying perspective of a protagonist from the world of organized crime.
A JTBC drama official said, “We will deliver both refreshing catharsis and warm humanity to viewers through an outrageous farce that unfolds in the most everyday of spaces.” Bringing a fun breeze to the living-room theater, Apartment will visit viewers next in July as the follow-up to the currently airing Sat-Sun drama.
