Winners Announced for La Cinéf at the 79th Cannes International Film Festival—A Dream Stage for Film Students Around the World

With film industry attention focused worldwide, the final winners in the “79th Cannes International Film Festival” “La Cinéf” category have been officially announced. Led by jury chair “Carla Simón”, the jury—made up of “Ali Asgari”, “Salim Kechiouche”, “Park Jimin”, and “Magnus von Horn”—wrapped up the successful screening event for the winning works at an awards ceremony held at the Théâtre de la Buñuel, calling out the next generation of master filmmakers.

This year, the “La Cinéf” category drew fierce competition from 2,747 entries submitted by film schools across the globe. Of those, only 19 student short films made the final shortlist, proving a level of competition higher than ever. The honor of first place went to “Lucas Archer”, director from New York University, for “Laser-Gato”, with judges recognizing his commanding directing ability.

Director Jin Misong Shines on the Global Stage, Pulls Off a Coup With Second Place at La Cinéf of the Cannes Film Festival

The standout achievement came with director “Jin Misong” of Columbia University in the United States winning second place. His film “Silent Voice” struck a deep chord with the jury, once again underscoring his exceptional directing skills on the global film scene.

Next, the shared honor of third place went to French director “Julius LaGoute Larsen” for “Never Enough”, as well as German director “Roozbeh Gezerseh” and director “Soraya Shamsi” for “Growing Stones, Flying Papers”. They received high praise for perfectly bringing their distinct cultural backgrounds and original perspectives to the screen.

“Cannes Film Festival” provides generous prize money to winners to actively support the paths of the next generation of filmmakers. First place receives €15,000, second place €11,000, and third place €7,500, respectively—laying a solid foundation for the future work of tomorrow’s master filmmakers.
