Pixar unveiled its original new film 〈Gato〉 with a teaser poster and a trailer.

〈Gato〉 is a film that follows a special journey as a black cat named Nero gets entangled with Rocco, the boss of the cat mafia, forming an unexpected friendship and searching for the true meaning of life. It is also the studio’s new work from Pixar Animation Studios, which made the 〈Toy Story〉 series and the 〈Inside Out〉 series. Set for a 2027 release, 〈Gato〉 shared its teaser trailer and poster on June 12.

The teaser poster and trailer offer a glimpse of the unique textures that are 〈Gato〉’s alone. “While capturing Venice’s painterly texture, we want to keep Pixar’s signature sense of depth and dimensionality,” Pixar CCO Pete Docter said, and 〈Gato〉 is expected to recreate the beauty of Venice through Pixar’s own point of view. In the trailer, cats behaving like mobsters get distracted by a lightbulb, leading to comical scenes—raising expectations for the film’s tone.

From 〈Ratatouille〉 and 〈Coco〉 to 〈Luca〉, Disney and Pixar have repeatedly drawn on the look, feel and culture of real places in distinctive ways. 〈Gato〉, which carries that legacy, is set for theatrical release in 2027.
