Ahead of its July 17 release, the shamanism-themed occult horror film 〈The Shrine: The Demon's Whisper〉 has unveiled the music video for "Burn," an OST track performed by lead actor Kim Jae-joong.
〈The Shrine: The Demon's Whisper〉 follows the story of Myung-jin (Kim Jae-joong), a male shaman who investigates after three college students disappear while surveying an abandoned shrine in Kobe, Japan, and confronts a strange evil spirit. The film blends Korean shamanic faith (K-shamanism) with Japan's distinctive horror sensibility (J-horror) and was shot entirely on location in Kobe to create a singular visual style.
"Burn," the newly released OST track, channels the escalating menace of the evil spirit lying dormant in the abandoned shrine through an intense soundscape. The music video builds tension as Myung-jin, who has special abilities, heads to Kobe after an urgent call from Yumi (Gong Seong-ha), his university junior. It showcases Kim Jae-joong's wide acting range, from Myung-jin's college past to his life-or-death confrontations with the evil spirit, while the exotic visuals of the abandoned shrine and Buddha statues deepen the mystery.
Ticket sales are already heating up ahead of the release. According to the Korean Box Office Information System (as of 6 p.m. on July 15), 〈The Shrine: The Demon's Whisper〉 ranked first among Korean films opening this week in advance ticket bookings. It also rose to third place overall in advance sales, behind 〈Toy Story 5〉 and 〈Gunche〉, signaling strong box-office potential. Premiere screenings sold out instantly, and major events including pre-release Q&A sessions and stage greetings are also selling out.
Directed by Kumakiri Kazuyoshi and starring Kim Jae-joong and Gong Seong-ha, 〈The Shrine: The Demon's Whisper〉 opens exclusively at CGV theaters in Korea on July 17.
