A Studio Ghibli masterpiece that once drew in 1 million viewers in South Korea, 〈The Secret World of Arrietty〉 has confirmed its Aug. 19 opening with a 4K remaster, and has unveiled a teaser poster. 〈The Secret World of Arrietty〉, about a 10-centimeter girl who survives by borrowing human items and a human boy, will find its way to theaters in a 4K remaster.
The movie 〈The Secret World of Arrietty〉 is based on Mary Norton’s 「THE BORROWERS」, which won Britain’s most prestigious children’s literature prize, the Carnegie Medal. Born from stories about a family of tiny people living in coexistence with humans, Studio Ghibli’s 〈The Secret World of Arrietty〉 not only won the Excellence in Animation (Best Animated Film) award at the 2011 Japan Academy Prize, but also sparked a global sensation after surpassing $100 million worldwide at the box office. In South Korea as well, the Studio Ghibli classic drew 1.06 million viewers when it was released in 2010 and was widely loved, and through this 4K remaster opening, it plans to win over audiences’ hearts once again.
The teaser poster unveiled alongside the release news draws attention to ‘Arrietty’ stepping carefully into the world, with her body hidden behind a large leaf. Her silhouette of a red dress and hair tied tightly conveys the film’s signature sensibility and mystery, and the tagline, “Don’t get caught by humans,” hints at the secret life of a family of tiny people living quietly in the human world, heightening expectations for the special fantasy the film will deliver.
