The Public Culture Exchange Committee’s '2027 FANOMENON,' planned under the banner of a 'Korea-style Coachella,' will take place at the Changdong Seoul Arena and the second exhibition hall of KINTEX in Goyang from Dec. 2 to Dec. 12 next year.

On the afternoon of the 27th, a press briefing was held to announce the '2027 FANOMENON promotion plan,' hosted by the Public Culture Exchange Committee, co-chaired by Choi Hui-young, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Park Jin-young, chief creativity officer (CCO) at JYP Entertainment, at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul Education Building, in Jongno-gu, Seoul.

A massive phenomenon led by fans: the birth of 'FANOMENON' The event name was created by combining Fan and the word for phenomenon—Phenomenon—to form FANOMENON. The idea is to view fans not as simple consumers but as partners who actively participate in spreading K-culture. FANOMENON is a private-sector-led large-scale event that combines K-pop concerts, fan-dominated awards ceremonies, and exhibition-and-experience programs from K-culture companies. On Dec. 2, a pre-event will be held, and from Dec. 3 to Dec. 12, the main event will run.

Changdong Seoul Arena: a 'fan-dominated awards ceremony' built on rigorous data At the Changdong Seoul Arena, scheduled to be completed in May next year, a stage that blends concerts and awards ceremonies will take shape, with well-known artists taking the stage one after another over two weeks. The key difference is that it does not award trophies to artists; instead, it awards them to fandoms. Park Jin-young, the chairman, said, "We will select the best fandom among 10 fandoms based on data that was investigated with an obsessively detailed level of precision," adding, "In a format where the artists' fans are the award recipients and the artists are effectively giving the awards on their behalf, it will also serve as motivation for the artists."

Goyang KINTEX: an all-around 'exhibition and experience festival' where music and K-culture are fused During the same period at KINTEX’s second exhibition hall in Goyang, festival-style music shows will be held featuring multiple artists, along with exhibition and experience events where attendees can see and directly experience K-culture. Companies from sectors such as food, beauty and fashion, as well as companies across diverse fields including webtoons, films, and dramas, will participate. In addition, a variety of side events are planned, including fan meetings, e-sports competitions, and OST performances. The committee said it expects to attract 520,000 total visitors over 11 days and 200,000 foreign tourists, and that it could generate about 1 trillion won in economic effects.

Three key business visions for global expansion That day, Park Jin-young, the chairman, declared plans to pursue three key projects: starting with holding the FANOMENON Awards ceremony in December next year, hosting the FANOMENON festival in May 2028 in Los Angeles, the United States, and building K-culture centers equipped with performance venues and exhibition halls of about 20,000 seats in major cities around the world. Co-chairman Choi Hui-young also said, "FANOMENON is a new attempt to create a massive K-culture platform that fans around the world can directly participate in and experience," adding that it will position itself as the hub of the global fandom industry.
