Actor Kim Minha will serve as the sole host of the opening ceremony for the 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF).
Chosen as the face of BIFF for a new leap The Busan International Film Festival said on the 31st, “Actor Kim Minha was selected as the sole host for the opening ceremony of the 31st Busan International Film Festival, which opens on October 6.” The festival added, “By introducing the competitive section last year and successfully settling in, Busan International Film Festival has further solidified its standing on the global stage,” and said it selected “Kim Minha, who is growing most clearly at this point, as the opening ceremony’s sole host to join this new-leap journey.”
The staying power of a global icon proven through “Pachinko” Kim Minha, who debuted in 2016, drew global attention for her nuanced portrayal in the Apple TV series 〈Pachinko〉, where she played the role of young Sunja and carefully depicted a character who lives fiercely amid the turbulent currents of the era. For this work, she won the Best Newcomer award in the TV category at the 2022 Asian American Awards, earning recognition for her potential overseas. She has since cemented her presence as a next-generation leading actress and icon through a variety of screen and TV projects that cross the boundary between the small and big screens, including the drama 〈Light Shop〉, 〈One Week Before I Die〉, 〈Typhoon Business〉, and the film 〈Hana Korea〉.
A 10-day film festival to shine with steady hosting The festival said, “This selection of a host comes from our attention to Kim Minha’s unmistakable path—one that has faithfully represented the inner world of characters through deep interpretations in each work. We expect that Kim Minha, who has captivated audiences with a grounded yet bold side through diverse work, will bring even more shine to the festival’s stature at the opening ceremony, with stable hosting.” The 31st Busan International Film Festival, guided by actor Kim Minha, will be held for 10 days from October 6 to 15 across the area around Busan Cinema Center.
