Matt Damon: Korea’s Baseball Fans Bring Huge Energy and Real Fan Spirit

Matt Damon said he was surprised by the energy of Korea’s baseball culture.

On Aug. 3, director Christopher Nolan, the star of the film 〈Odissey〉, producer Emma Thomas, and lead actors Matt Damon and Charlize Theron attended a press conference for their visit to Korea at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jongno-gu, Seoul. That day, Damon shared his impressions after watching the SSG Landers vs. the Kiwoom Heroes game at the Gocheok Sky Dome on Aug. 1 in Seoul.

Damon said, “Coincidentally, I have a friend who works as a baseball agent, and he represents a player on the Kiwoom Heroes, so I watched a game involving that friend’s client. I’d heard people say Korea’s baseball is great, so I wanted to see it. I found it really strange how the fans of both teams cheer in their own ways. In the U.S., we don’t do it like that, but I thought the fans’ energy and passion are incredible,” and he relayed his feelings from the stands.

He also added that he felt disappointed because he went with his kids but couldn’t watch until the end since everyone still needed to adjust to the time difference.

In 〈Odissey〉, which opens Aug. 5, Matt Damon is receiving praise for his portrayal of King Odysseus, who brings the Trojan War to an end and returns home.
