'The Live Emperor' Lee Seung-chul Resumes 40th Anniversary Nationwide Tour

The echoes of 40 years as a legend rewrites the standard for live performances again

A giant of South Korea’s popular music scene, 'Lee Seung-chul', who marks the 40th anniversary of his debut, is rewriting history in the concert world once again. Beginning with Gwangju on Nov. 14, he will kick off the second-half nationwide tour concert 'The Voice: Lee Seung-chul' (THE VOICE : LEE SEUNG CHUL) with a flourish. The organizer, 'TYPE COMMUNICATION', on the 4th, unveiled the tour schedule in a sweeping fashion, packing it with an overwhelming scale and drawing intense attention from fans.

This second-half tour will cut across six major cities in total—from Gwangju first, then Daejeon, Daegu, Incheon, and Busan, and onward to Seoul. The Seoul shows, which will cap off the tour, will run for three days from Dec. 4 to 6 at the Olympic Park 'KSPO Dome' (gymnastics arena), staged on an enormous scale. With the first-half concerts held in places such as Cheongju, Bucheon, and Hwaseong in July and August delivering perfect box-office success, anticipation for the second-half tour is already at its peak.

The organizers made it clear that this tour is not simply an encore run. They are fully overhauling the set list and stage direction, promising an even more evolved performance. The mega-hit song parade that spans four decades of music, as well as hidden gems that are rarely heard in the existing stage format, will also be newly slotted in, as the organizers look to maximize viewers’ audio catharsis.

In 1986, 'Lee Seung-chul' emerged like a shooting star on the pop music scene with the debut album of the band 'Revival'. Moving back and forth between group and solo work, he helped set major milestones in the history of Korean popular music, including 'Hee-ya', 'Even Today I', 'Girls’ Generation', 'Fate', 'Western Sky', and 'Last Concert'. More recently, he successfully wrapped up a recording of his solo stage for KBS Chuseok special 'Your Life Is a Never-Ending Story - Lee Seung-chul', once again proving his unmistakable status as the 'Emperor of Live Performances' whose influence transcends generations.
