The blood-soaked saga surrounding the miraculous relic ‘Gwan-eum Boju,’ the front line of the 1258 Goryeo–Mongol war

With an overwhelming cast lineup featuring actors ‘Ahn Bohyun’ and ‘Lee Seungmin’, along with ‘Jeong Dae-yun’, the director of ‘Reborn Rich’, and ‘Jeong Hyeon-min’, the writer of ‘Jeong Dojeon’, JTBC’s new weekend-and-holiday drama ‘God’s Bead’ finally reveals its majestic presence. JTBC officially announced on the 11th that the much-anticipated production will land on December’s prime-time TV lineup.

The series takes as its backdrop Goryeo in 1258, when the country’s very existence was thrown into turmoil by a brutal, decades-long war against the Mongols. It will closely depict an escort team that races onto the battlefield to seize the legendary relic ‘Gwan-eum Boju’—a talisman believed to save the nation—and the desperate, sweeping battle of a royal princess trying to rescue them.

Anchoring the drama is ‘Ahn Bohyun’, who plays ‘Baekgyeol’, a special-operations commander of the escort team endowed with miraculous abilities, bringing forth bold, no-nonsense action as well as deeply layered emotional acting. Matching that, ‘Lee Seungmin’ takes on the role of ‘Choi Gu’, the head of Yabyeolcho, Goryeo’s top-tier special forces unit, unleashing an unrivaled charisma that spans the entire series and maximizes its tension.

Above all, the point drawing eyes both within and outside the broadcasting industry is the meeting of production staff who have left a mark on the history of Korean dramas. ‘Jeong Hyeon-min’, the writer who delivered sharp historical insight through ‘Jeong Dojeon’ and ‘Nokdu Flower’, and ‘Jeong Dae-yun’, the director who proved his ability to craft outstanding mise-en-scene through ‘W Two Worlds’ and ‘Reborn Rich’, are expected to open up a new horizon for a well-made, traditional sageuk.

Meanwhile, ‘God’s Bead’ is aiming not only at domestic TV audiences but also at the global market. The broadcast plans to provide simultaneous service worldwide to viewers through the online video service (OTT) ‘Coupang Play’ and ‘Amazon Prime Video’, once again demonstrating the strength of K-content.
