Small Cinema Showcase to open nationwide next month with 91 free films from KOFIC, including One Fine Spring Day

Showcase to run through November at 25 theaters in nine regions nationwide, with AI workshops, concerts and other programs

The Korean Film Council will launch its 2026 Small Cinema Showcase on the first of next month, screening a carefully selected lineup of classic films audiences would like to see again at theaters in underserved cultural areas.

The showcase was organized to give residents in areas with limited film infrastructure more opportunities to enjoy a diverse range of cultural experiences. This year’s lineup includes 91 films, led by Korean movies that won overwhelming public support in the 2000s, including International Market (2014), Miracle in Cell No. 7 (2013) and One Fine Spring Day (2001).

The event begins next month at Hallim Small Cinema in Jeju and will continue through November at 25 theaters across nine regions nationwide: Gangwon, North Gyeongsang, South Gyeongsang, North Jeolla, South Chungcheong, North Chungcheong, Jeju and Ulsan.

The showcase will also offer a range of programs designed to engage audiences beyond the film screenings. On the fifth of next month, Hallim Cinema will host a cine-talk exploring the work of Ahn Sung-ki, one of the towering figures of Korean cinema. On Oct. 17, Buan Masil Cinema will welcome audiences to a live concert featuring string-ensemble reinterpretations of classic songs by Ennio Morricone, a giant of international film music.

Other programs include filmmaker talks, hands-on generative artificial intelligence (AI) production workshops reflecting the latest technology trends, and animation classes for children, offering a rich slate of activities for all generations.
