K-pop makes history by shaking South America

The group Stray Kids made K-pop history by drawing 100,000 fans to Brazil's Rock in Rio, widely regarded as the world's largest music festival.

At the main event held Sept. 11 local time at Rio de Janeiro's Olympic Park, the group took center stage. Stray Kids became the first Korean headliners to perform on the massive platform that has hosted global pop stars including Calvin Harris and Elton John.

Festival organizers made an especially notable move, allowing fans to bring in light sticks for the first time since the festival was founded in 1985. The unprecedented decision, made out of respect for fandom culture, demonstrated Stray Kids' enormous influence in the local music market.

The group sent the 100,000-strong crowd into a frenzy with a string of global mega-hits, including S-Class, God's Menu and Chk Chk Boom.

The explosive success across South America will continue with STRAYCITY, a new music festival created and produced by the group. After a successful debut in Bogotá, Colombia, on Sept. 9, the festival will travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Sept. 14-15 before arriving in Mexico City on Sept. 25-26, further cementing Stray Kids' commanding position on the global tour circuit.
