Indonesian Horror Master Joko Anwar’s New Film ‘Ghost in the Cell’ Set for Oct. 7 Korean Release

The latest film from the genre master is set for an October release.

The film 〈Ghost in the Cell〉 will be released in South Korea on Oct. 7, with its main poster and stills unveiled. 〈Ghost in the Cell〉 is a gore horror film about a series of bizarre deaths that follows the arrival of a new inmate at an Indonesian prison where violence and corruption have become everyday realities. The film previously met Korean audiences at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in July.

The newly released main poster captures a moment when numerous inmates appear to have witnessed a horrifying scene, their faces reflecting a mix of confusion and shock. Blood and chunks of flesh scattered across the bottom of the poster, in particular, invite viewers to imagine what is happening beyond the frame. The stills also hint at the process by which the prison’s once-orderly environment descends into chaos, heightening curiosity.

〈Ghost in the Cell〉, the latest film from horror master Joko Anwar, who has built an original genre universe through the ‘Satan’s Slaves’ series, topped Indonesia’s overall box office for three consecutive weeks. The film will be released in South Korea on Oct. 7.
