An 18-week run on the U.S. Billboard 200 and 2.3 million debut-album sales have fueled a one-two surge
CORTIS, the group shaking up the global music market, has reached another landmark. According to BigHit Music on the 17th, cumulative sales of its second mini album, ‘GREENGREEN’ (GREENGREEN), have broken through the 4 million mark in a single leap.
According to the latest weekly Circle Album Chart, ‘GREENGREEN’ has posted a remarkable 4.1 million sales. Only two albums in South Korea’s music industry have sold more than 4 million copies this year: BTS’ ‘ARIRANG’ (ARIRANG) and CORTIS’ ‘GREENGREEN’. The result demonstrates both the group’s overwhelming fan power and its broad public appeal, despite being so early in its career.
The explosive success was evident from the start. Released in May, the album sold 2,313,291 copies in its first week alone, according to Hanteo Chart, launching an unchecked run. The label said, “The innovative sound presented by the title track ‘REDRED’ (REDRED) and the B-side ‘YOUNGCREATORCREW’ (YOUNGCREATORCREW), along with their sophisticated message, completely captivated listeners’ ears,” adding that “the praise for the music’s quality naturally translated into explosive demand for physical albums.”
The group has also made a striking impact on global charts beyond South Korea. ‘GREENGREEN’ made a splashy No. 3 debut on the U.S. Billboard main album chart, ‘Billboard 200’, and has remained on the chart for 18 consecutive weeks, demonstrating formidable staying power.
The enduring popularity of its previous release is also notable. Its debut album, ‘COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES’ (COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES), which first arrived in September last year, sold about 1 million additional copies this year alone, pushing cumulative sales past 2.3 million. The new and previous releases are now simultaneously dominating the charts in an unusual display.
