“Beyond a ‘syndrome,’ it’s ‘history’”… Cortis’ charge reshapes global clout

South Korea’s pop music landscape is in flux. The mega hit “Redred (REDRED)” by the group Cortis has held the top spot for a remarkable 70 consecutive days on Apple Music’s “Today’s Top 100: Korea” chart, achieving an unprecedented feat.

According to a statement from their agency, BigHit Music, this overwhelming run has left no room for even a single gap since the moment they reclaimed the chart crown on April 26. It is the longest reign in the past five years among boy groups that entered the music scene, and a landmark achievement that has ruled over the public’s ears for the longest period among all domestic songs released this year.

Their impact is not confined to domestic charts. “Redred (REDRED)” also climbed straight up to a new best-ever rank of No. 18 on Apple Music’s “Today’s Top 100: Global” chart on May 6 and went on to take over the chart for 69 days. In particular, the fact that among K-pop boy groups that cleared the chart’s solid entry barrier on this global chart for the year, there are only two teams—BTS and Cortis—clearly shows the immense global power they command.

With an original soundscape and performances that stick in the mind, Cortis fully dominated the first half of the music market. Now they turn their focus to the global stage in the second half. After lining up appearances at major international music festivals in succession—America’s Lollapalooza Chicago, Japan’s Rock in Japan Festival 2026, and Singapore’s Formula One Singapore Grand Prix—they are expected to once again boost music fans’ pulse around the world.
