'God's Quiz' Captivates Japan With Remake of South Korea's First Crime Procedural, Starring Shotaro Mamiya

The birth of a genius forensic pathologist set to take Japan by storm, backed by a stellar production team

The acclaimed drama 'God's Quiz', starring actor Ryu Deok-hwan, is making a triumphant return in Japan. Amazon Prime Video Japan officially announced that it will release a remake of the drama, also titled 'God's Quiz,' on Dec. 4.

The original OCN series 'God's Quiz' ran for five successful seasons from 2010 to 2019, marking a milestone as South Korea's first medical crime procedural. The Japanese remake follows a surgeon once hailed as a genius chosen by God who becomes a forensic pathologist and pursues mysterious deaths and the truth behind them.

Shotaro Mamiya, one of Japan's leading actors, has been cast in the starring role. He has demonstrated his distinctive acting skills in dramas including 'Number MG5' and 'Cinderella at 2 A.M.', as well as films such as 'Tokyo Revengers' and 'The Strange House.'

In a social media post, he said, "When I was in my early 20s, my manager suggested that I should take on this role, so I immersed myself in the Korean original." He added, "I'm also eagerly looking forward to seeing how the series has come together. I hope viewers enjoy watching it."

The remake will be directed by Shunki Hashizume, who helmed the Netflix Japan series 'Soulmate,' which drew attention for starring actor Ok Taec-yeon. Viewers worldwide are watching to see what emerges from the synergy between the original's solid narrative and Japan's top production talent.
