‘King of K-pop’ surpasses Queen of Pop Beyoncé

BTS’ ‘ARIRANG’ world tour is rewriting the history of live performances worldwide. The tour ranked No. 1 by a wide margin in cumulative global tour revenue through the third quarter, once again demonstrating the stature of K-pop.

According to data on cumulative ticket revenue by tour recently released by Pollstar, covering the period from Nov. 13 last year through Aug. 12 this year, BTS’ ‘ARIRANG’ tour generated an astronomical 637 billion won in ticket sales. That was the highest total among all tours held worldwide during the period.

The ‘ARIRANG’ tour, which opened in April, drew a remarkable 2,314,140 fans across 38 shows. The figure easily surpassed the roughly 557.4 billion won generated by pop star Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter Tour’, which ranked No. 1 in global tour revenue last year. It underscores BTS’ unparalleled influence in the global music market.

The tour’s biggest hit city was Las Vegas. Four shows at Allegiant Stadium in May alone drew 245,691 fans and generated roughly 91.1 billion won in revenue in a single city.

After sweeping through North America and Europe, BTS is heading to South America. The group will launch the South American leg in Bogota on Oct. 2 and is expected to continue its global phenomenon.
