Christopher’s boundless praise for K-pop artists: Will Jennie be next?

Danish pop star Christopher has once again made an enthusiastic pitch to South Korea’s popular music scene. In a written interview with Yonhap News Agency on the 5th, he said he had been deeply impressed by the extraordinary talent and dedication of K-pop artists.

Christopher, who says he enjoys the musical connections that emerge across language and cultural barriers, emphasized the appeal of collaboration. “Working with an artist who grew up in an environment completely different from mine always produces something new and exciting,” he said. The artist he singled out as a potential next collaborator is Jennie of the global girl group BLACKPINK. “She’s a really fascinating artist. I’m very curious to see what kind of music we could create together,” he said, making no secret of his anticipation.

With the global hits “Bad” and “Told You So”, Christopher has built a solid following in South Korea and has already demonstrated the perfect synergy he can achieve with Korean artists. After releasing the 2020 duet “Bad Boy” with Chungha, he followed it in 2024 with “Trouble,” a collaboration with rapper Lee Youngji that stormed South Korea’s music charts and showcased his special affection for the country.

The electric singalong from his first South Korean concert returns at Sejong Center

Christopher will return to South Korea for “Seoul Jazz Festival at the Theater,” taking the stage at the Grand Theater of Sejong Center in Seoul on Nov. 19 and 20. Launching in South Korea for the first time this year, “Seoul Jazz Festival at the Theater” is an autumn spinoff of the Seoul Jazz Festival, which excites music fans every spring.

The brightest moment in Christopher’s history of performing in South Korea has undoubtedly been the distinctive Korean tradition of singing along in unison. He said he still vividly remembers the intense energy he felt at a small venue during his first visit in 2017. “I could see the expression on each audience member’s face, and watching them sing every word of ‘Bad’ perfectly was simply astonishing,” he recalled.

Christopher also enjoys explosive performances at large arena-scale venues such as KSPO Dome, but for this Sejong Center concert, he plans to recreate the intimacy of his early performances in South Korea by connecting more closely with the audience. “South Korea is a very special place to me, and every time I visit, my bond with the fans grows stronger,” he said. “I hope the audience sings as loudly as they can this time, too. I’ll pour all my energy into the stage,” he vowed.

A melody born in Denmark, on the opposite side of the world, gains new life when it meets Korean fans. Christopher calls this extraordinary connection the true power of music and promises a spectacular live performance on an autumn night to come.
