“Blizzard,” starring Kim Yoon-seok and Koo Kyo-hwan, unveiled four parody posters on October 22 that playfully reimagine Showbox’s biggest hits of 2026.
Showbox has delivered a string of hits this year, beginning with “Once We Were Us” (directed by Kim Do-young), which sparked a romance-film craze in the first half of the year. “The King’s Warden” (directed by Jang Hang-jun) drew 16.93 million moviegoers and climbed to No. 2 on the all-time box-office chart; “Salmokji: Whispering Water” (directed by Lee Sang-min) became the highest-grossing Korean horror film; and director Yeon Sang-ho’s “Colony” attracted 5.95 million moviegoers. “Blizzard,” Showbox’s final theatrical release of 2026, playfully adapts the concepts of all four hits to the events at Seolo Station.
One poster riffs on “Once We Were Us,” showing the two men seated side by side on a bench beneath the line, “When we were coldest, we were most suspicious of each other.” Another recasts “The King’s Warden” as “The Station’s Warden,” emphasizing the mystery surrounding Seolo Station amid a blizzard. Others retain the feel of the films they reference with the lines “A train station between life and death” (“Salmokji: Whispering Water”) and “The beginning of a new successor” (“Colony”), while deftly conveying the tension between the departing senior employee and his newly arrived replacement.
“Blizzard” is a mystery drama set at a rural train station cut off by a blizzard. The story begins when an unidentified body is found before stationmaster Gap-su (Kim Yoon-seok), who is nearing mandatory retirement, and his newly appointed replacement, Hyun-taek (Koo Kyo-hwan).
Anticipation is building for “Blizzard,” the first film to pair two of South Korea’s leading character actors, Kim Yoon-seok and Koo Kyo-hwan. It opens in theaters nationwide on November 18.
