“Sakuranbo” Reborn: A Hit Reimagined With K-Pop Sensibilities

Music production company 'SH Gold Networks' announced that 'Choi Yena' will remake 'Sakuranbo' (さくらんぼ), a signature song by Japanese singer 'Ai Otsuka', for an official release on the 17th of next month.

First released in 2003, 'Sakuranbo' swept Japan and sparked a sensation. Its distinctive upbeat rhythm and highly catchy melody helped it build a strong fan base not only in Japan’s popular music scene but also in South Korea, where it inspired numerous cover videos and challenges.

For this project, 'Choi Yena' will preserve the original’s lively, positive energy while adding the polished arrangements and sensibility characteristic of modern K-pop. Industry insiders are watching to see how she, having demonstrated a singular ability to embody concepts as a solo artist, will give the classic a contemporary interpretation. The project is expected to become more than a simple remake, drawing attention as a new symbol of musical exchange between South Korea and Japan.
