'Friday the 13th' Short Film 'Sweet Revenge' Jason Voorhees' Glamorous Return

The short film 'Sweet Revenge', commemorating the 45th anniversary of the 'Friday the 13th' franchise, has been released, marking the glamorous return of the hockey mask-wearing killer Jason Voorhees.

This short film, the first work of the 'Jason Universe' project announced by the newly established Horror Inc. in May, was officially released online after a teaser was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con.

A New Perspective on the Jason Story

Director Mike P. Nelson stated, "I wanted to tell an interesting story, not just have Jason kill a lot of people in 13 minutes. What makes horror great is the heart. It was important to introduce a character that people would fall in love with and show a transformation."

In this short film, a new character named Eve (Ally Ioannides) appears. She is depicted as a character who is resurrected with powers similar to Jason's after meeting her death at Crystal Lake.

Transformation from Final Girl to Monster

Director Nelson explained, "Eve starts as a character completely opposite to Jason. She wears a pink checkered shirt and speaks softly, but crazy things happen. She shows that the Final Girl is not just a simple Final Girl but becomes a monster in some ways."

Jason's Artistic Killing Method

Skyler White, a 6-foot-5 stunt coordinator, plays Jason. Director Nelson said, "I wanted Jason to be one who achieves his goals regardless of speed, not just a running Jason. There is artistry in his killings. It's not just about stabbing a hole with a knife like picking up an apple slicer; it has a special meaning."

Open Ending and Future Developments

The short film concludes with an implicit yet open ending where Eve and Jason encounter each other. Director Nelson left a question about future developments, asking, "What reaction will Jason have when he meets someone like himself? Does Eve not want Jason, but will he keep following her, or will it be the other way around?"

Horror Inc. plans to produce a prequel series 'Crystal Lake' to be aired on Peacock and a feature film starting with this short film.
