Hwang Jung-eum Receives 3-Year Sentence in Court for Embezzlement Charges

Hwang Jung-eum has received a 3-year sentence in court.

Actress Hwang Jung-eum is currently undergoing a sentencing trial at the Jeju District Court for violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (embezzlement). Hwang Jung-eum is accused of embezzling a total of 4.3 billion won, including 700 million won received as an advance from funds borrowed through a family corporation in which she holds 100% of the shares, and investing it in cryptocurrency, with approximately 4.2 billion won reportedly used for cryptocurrency investments.

In May, Hwang Jung-eum's side acknowledged all charges and stated during the trial on the 21st, "While I had the desire to grow the company, around 2021, I was advised by people around me to increase company funds through coin investments, and I jumped into coin investments that I was not familiar with. Although it was company funds, it seems I made an immature judgment as it was profit earned from my activities." It is also reported that they submitted documents indicating that all embezzled funds have been repaid.

However, the Jeju District Prosecutor's Office has sought a 3-year prison sentence, and the sentencing trial will be held on September 25.
