Psy Under Police Investigation for Violating Medical Laws...Agency Says "Receiving Sleeping Pills on Behalf of Someone Else is a Clear Mistake and Oversight"

Singer Psy (48, real name Park Jae-sang) is under police investigation for allegedly having controlled substances prescribed and received by a third party, including his manager.

The Seodaemun Police Station announced on the 28th that they have registered Psy and Professor A from a university hospital who prescribed the medication as suspects and are currently investigating. It is reported that the police captured this suspicion through a tip-off and recently conducted a search and seizure at the university hospital to secure medical records.

Psy is said to be facing allegations of having received prescriptions for controlled substances 'Xanax' and 'Stilnox' from a university hospital in Seoul without undergoing in-person consultations from 2022 until recently, and having these medications received by a third party, including his manager.

According to current medical laws, only doctors who have directly examined a patient can write prescriptions, and prescriptions cannot be received by anyone other than the patient who has been directly examined. Xanax and Stilnox, which Psy is reported to have been prescribed, are controlled substances used for treating sleep disorders, anxiety disorders, and depression, and they require in-person examination and prescriptions due to their high potential for dependence and addiction.

In response, Professor A has reportedly denied the related allegations, stating, "I conducted the consultation remotely."

Psy's agency, P Nation, issued an official statement on the same day, apologizing, saying, "Receiving prescription sleeping pills on behalf of someone else is a clear mistake and oversight." The agency explained, "Psy has been diagnosed with chronic sleep disorders and is taking sleeping pills as prescribed by medical professionals."

P Nation clarified, "The use of sleeping pills has been prescribed in specified doses under the guidance of medical professionals, and there were no proxy prescriptions," while also acknowledging, "There have been instances where sleeping pills were received by a third party, and an investigation is currently ongoing by the police." They added, "We sincerely apologize for causing concern once again."

The police plan to summon Psy after analyzing the medical records secured through the search and seizure.
