'Bon Appétit, Your Majesty' Records 11.1% Viewership!...The Best Performance Among tvN Dramas This Year

The time-slip drama 〈Bon Appétit, Your Majesty〉 based on food and history is becoming a turning point in resolving tvN's drama slump by achieving double-digit viewership.

According to data released by Nielsen Korea on the 1st, the nationwide viewership rating for the 4th episode of the tvN weekend drama 〈Bon Appétit, Your Majesty〉 that aired the previous day recorded 11.1%. The highest viewership reached 13.6%.

This is the highest figure among all tvN dramas aired this year. After last year's single-digit ratings for the drama 〈My Time〉 starring Kim Tae-ri, a tvN drama has finally broken the 10% barrier after a long time.

The previous day's broadcast depicted the fierce competition for the position of the best chef in the Joseon Dynasty, the Daeryeongsuk. Chef Yeon Ji-young (played by Lim Yoon-a) from the future competed for this position against other chefs.

In an extreme situation where she would lose an arm if she was eliminated from the competition, Yeon Ji-young read the mind of the judging Queen Dowager Inju (played by Seo Yi-sook). Realizing that the Queen Dowager missed the taste of the soybean paste soup her mother made, Yeon Ji-young recreated it as clam soybean paste soup and won the competition.

After her final victory, Yeon Ji-young also made progress in her relationship with the tyrant Lee Heon (played by Lee Chae-min). This episode ended with a scene where the drunken Lee Heon kisses Yeon Ji-young, signaling the official start of their romantic line.

〈Bon Appétit, Your Majesty〉 is a time-slip genre work that deals with the story of a Michelin 3-star chef who accidentally falls into the Joseon Dynasty. It attracted viewers' interest by using food, a subject that resonates with people of all ages, and by showing the cooking process in detail.

The drama lightly and humorously depicts the efforts of a chef from modern times trying to satisfy the picky taste of the tyrant, who is set as the best gourmet of Joseon. It also appropriately places romantic elements between the two main characters to enhance its completeness.

Despite the variable of a sudden departure of the lead actor during the production process, the natural chemistry between Lim Yoon-a and Lee Chae-min has dispelled initial concerns and received positive evaluations.
