Rush to Produce K-Pop Themed Movies Following the Success of 'K-Pop Demon Hunters'... Jeon Somi to Star in 'Perfect Girl' Next Month

Thanks to the global box office success of the Netflix animated film 〈K-Pop Demon Hunters〉, the production of movies based on K-Pop is gaining momentum.

According to the music industry on the 4th, a thriller film titled 〈Perfect Girl〉 is set to begin filming next month, focusing on the fierce competition in the K-Pop industry and the stories of trainees. Directed by Hong Won-ki of Johnny Bros, known for producing music videos, the film will be produced by Badlands and Thunder Road Films.

In this film, singer Jeon Somi will take on her first serious acting challenge. The specific role of Jeon Somi has not yet been revealed. Jeon Somi's agency, The Black Label, stated, "Actress and model Adeline Rudolph and actor Aden Cho, who voiced 'Rumi' in 〈K-Pop Demon Hunters〉 and is a co-producer, will also appear in the film."

The K-Pop movie production craze does not stop here. In July, Hive America, the U.S. subsidiary of the leading domestic entertainment company Hive, announced a partnership with Paramount Pictures to produce a K-Pop themed movie aimed for theatrical release in February 2027.

This project tells the story of a Korean-American girl who, despite her family's opposition, does not give up on her dream of joining a K-Pop girl group and challenges a TV audition program. Actor Yoo Ji-young, who voiced 'Joy' in 〈K-Pop Demon Hunters〉, has been cast as the lead, and singer-actor Eric Nam has also joined the cast.
