At the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, HBO Max's medical drama 〈The Pitt〉 and Netflix's British drama 〈Adolescence〉 (Adolescence), along with Apple TV+ comedy drama 〈Hacks〉, swept the major categories of the prestigious Emmy Awards in American broadcasting.
At the awards ceremony held on the 14th (local time) at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, 〈The Pitt〉 won the award for Outstanding Drama Series, which garnered the most attention. The lead actor of 〈The Pitt〉, Noah Wyle, received the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Wyle had been nominated five times for the popular 1990s medical drama 〈ER〉 but had never won until now, marking his first Emmy win.
〈The Pitt〉 has been praised for its intense portrayal of events occurring in the emergency room and its realistic handling of various issues in the medical field. The drama won a total of five awards, including Outstanding Supporting Actress and in the Creative Arts categories. The New York Times (NYT) commented, "The low-budget HBO Max medical drama has created a surprising sensation."
In the miniseries category, Netflix's British drama 〈Adolescence〉 won the award for Outstanding Miniseries. This work, which tells the story of a 13-year-old boy accused of murder, not only won the Outstanding Miniseries award but also took home six awards, including Outstanding Directing, Outstanding Writing, Outstanding Lead Actor, Outstanding Supporting Actor, and Outstanding Supporting Actress, nearly sweeping the miniseries category, and achieved a total of eight wins including in the Creative Arts categories.

15-year-old British actor Owen Cooper, who won the Outstanding Supporting Actor award, has been recorded as the youngest male acting award winner in Emmy history. In his acceptance speech, Cooper said, "Just three years ago, I was nothing," and added, "When I started taking drama classes a few years ago, I never imagined I would come to America. It really feels like a dream."
In the comedy category, Apple TV+ 〈Hacks〉 won the award for Outstanding Comedy Series, achieving a total of 13 wins. This surpassed the previous record of 11 wins set by 〈The Bear〉 last year, setting a new record for the most wins in a single season in the comedy category. Seth Rogen, who directed, produced, wrote, and starred in the drama, won four awards including Outstanding Directing, Outstanding Lead Actor, Outstanding Writing, and Outstanding Series.
Despite being nominated for the most awards with 27 nominations, 〈Severance〉 Season 2 failed to win the Outstanding Series award, losing to 〈The Pitt〉, but did win Outstanding Lead Actress and Outstanding Supporting Actor in the drama series category. Trammell Tillman, who won the Outstanding Supporting Actor award, made history as the first Black actor to receive this award. This drama, produced by CJ ENM's American subsidiary Fifth Season, won two Emmy Awards in its first season in 2022 and has now won eight Emmy Awards in its second season.

74-year-old veteran actor Jean Smart won the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series award for 〈Hacks〉 for the fourth time, further extending the record for the oldest winner in this category. This marks Smart's seventh Emmy win overall.
Additionally, Hannah Einbinder, who won the Outstanding Supporting Actress award for 〈Hacks〉, drew attention by concluding her acceptance speech with a profanity-laden outburst directed at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and shouting, "Freedom for Palestine!"
The late-night talk show 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert', which is set to end following CBS's announcement of its cancellation in July, received the award for Outstanding Talk Series on this day. As host Colbert and the production team took the stage, the audience, consisting of fellow actors and broadcasters, gave a standing ovation in celebration.
The decision to cancel the program has sparked controversy in the broadcasting industry, with allegations that it was aimed at ousting host Colbert, who repeatedly made jokes that irritated President Donald Trump during broadcasts, leading the Writers Guild of America to issue a condemnation statement.
Comedian Nate Bargatze, who hosted the awards ceremony, humorously threatened to reduce the amount he would donate to a youth organization from $100,000 every time a winner exceeded their allotted time for acceptance speeches, eliciting laughter from the audience.
Throughout most of the ceremony, a number indicating the reduced donation amount was displayed on the screen, and at one point, it dropped to '-$50,000', but Bargatze concluded the ceremony by stating that he would donate the full amount as planned with CBS.
