
Park Chan-wook's cinematic world can be explored through this documentary.
SBS plans to broadcast the documentary 〈NEW OLD BOY〉 during this Chuseok holiday. 〈NEW OLD BOY〉 captures Park Chan-wook's history from starting as a video store owner to becoming a globally recognized film director. It follows how a young man who loved movies grew into a master, uncovering the hidden secrets of creativity along the way.
This work features Lee Byung-hun, the lead actor of Park Chan-wook's new film 〈No Other Choice〉, participating as the narrator, adding special significance. Additionally, this documentary brings together faces of Korean cinema. Choi Min-sik, Song Kang-ho, Lee Byung-hun, Lee Young-ae, Shin Ha-kyun, Son Ye-jin, Lee Sung-min, Yeom Hye-ran, Kim Hae-sook, Kim Byung-ok, Park Jung-min, and even Tang Wei, who rushed back from overseas filming, all stand in front of the camera. The stars of 〈Joint Security Area〉, Song Kang-ho, Lee Byung-hun, Lee Young-ae, and Shin Ha-kyun, share their first encounters with Park Chan-wook during his days as an unknown director and recount his unique working style felt on set. Furthermore, previously unseen archives of 〈Joint Security Area〉 will also be revealed in abundance.
Voices of the staff who have been with him since his debut, when he was still unknown, to today as a world-renowned master, cannot be missed. Music director Jo Young-wook, who has lived next door to Park Chan-wook for 30 years and observed him closely, screenwriter Jeong Seo-kyung, who is his creative partner, world-renowned art director Ryu Seong-hee, who has brought Park Chan-wook's world to reality and won the Cannes Vulcan Award, and Ryu Seung-wan, who became a fellow director between directing and assistant directing in 〈Veteran〉, all vividly testify to what kind of director Park Chan-wook is.
〈NEW OLD BOY〉 will air on SBS at 10:20 PM on October 8 and 9 during the Chuseok holiday.
