Breaking a 4-year hiatus, the 21st Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival opened on the 16th at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall. This year's festival features 65 selected films from a record total of 1,891 submissions, which will be screened until the 20th.
Since its first event in 2002, the Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival has served as a 'gateway' for the Korean commercial film industry for 20 years, entering a hiatus after its 20th anniversary in 2021. This year, seven directors including Jang Jae-hyun, Han Jun-hee, Yoon Ga-eun, Eom Tae-hwa, Lee Sang-geun, Lee Ok-seop, and Jo Sung-hee formed a new executive committee to lead the festival's revival.
The 65 finalists will compete in a total of 7 categories. Awards will be given for the Grand Prize, Best Film Award, Jury Special Award, Cinematography Award, Actor Award, Audience Award, and Best Moving Self-Portrait Award. Among these, the Grand Prize is determined by a unanimous decision from all judges, making it a challenging criterion that has only been awarded 4 times in the past 20 years.
The festival will take place at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall until the 19th, with the closing ceremony held at Naver 1784.
