Promising Athlete Declared Brain Dead
The accident occurred around 10 AM on the day of the marathon in Dongi-myeon, Okcheon-gun, Chungbuk. A (25), an elite marathon runner belonging to the Cheongju City Hall Sports Team, was struck by a 1-ton Porter truck driven by an 80-year-old driver B who suddenly changed lanes from the first lane to the second lane.
A suffered severe head and body injuries and was transported to a general hospital in Daejeon, but ultimately was declared brain dead and is currently receiving life support, adding to the sorrow. Jin Tae-hyun described A as a "promising athlete with a Dong-A Marathon record of 2 hours and 13 minutes, full of passion" and expressed his grief.

Criticism of the Event's Operation with Only 'One Lane Controlled'
Jin Tae-hyun pointed out the incomplete traffic control situation that could have been the main cause of the accident. At that time, only one lane out of two was controlled for the athletes, and it was reported that a police patrol car was escorting the athletes about 20 to 30 meters ahead.
He earnestly added through social media, "It is said that only one lane was controlled on a two-lane road during the official provincial marathon event," and requested prayers for the athletes, their families, and fellow competitors.
Meanwhile, due to this accident, the remaining schedule of the marathon event organized by the Chungbuk Athletics Federation and others has been completely canceled, and the police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
